Blog Post #6 Type of IGO

This week in class, IGOs were presented and their importance was also discussed. IGOs are private corporations that assist in decreasing the suffering that goes on throughout the worpromotes texts the environment, or help build communities. These organizations are different from NGOs (non-governmental organizations) on the basis that IGOs specifically deals issues on an international scale. One of the examples that were shown in class of an IGO consists of United Nations.

United Nations has been a successful organization that aims to prevent war and allow there to be a platform for international countries to voice their concerns so that a major war does not errput. This formed after the league of nations failed in 1939 to produce peace in internationals worlds which in return caused WWII.  IGOs play a crucial role in our world because it encourages cooperation within states. Without the role of IGOs, countries would not ave a solid base to see wha they can and cannot do to other nations. One may wonder why powerful nations even wanted to be cooperating with other nations. The answer to this has many subanswers. By joining the United Nations not only are nations able todiscuss issues directly, they also get economic rewards, security, and is shown to have an improved democracy. All these factors are very important to countries so that hey can ensure their safety and economic standpoint increases.

IGOs are a major part in understanding International Relations. They help to better understand the reasonswhat nations continue to work together on an interntional level andalso continue to maintain peace.

Throughout the years of president, Barack Obama has come to a realization that many things need to be readdressed. President Obama has now understood that the priorities of previous years now must change according to the current times. One of the evident changes that have been already seen is the withdraw of US troops from Afghanistan. Obama recognizes that when the crisis first evolved, it was the right decision to take however, now when Americans analyze how much its costing them  (the war is in its 10th year and is costing $2 billion (€1.4 billion) a week), priorities have began to change.  Last year in June, President Obama also addressed in a speech that  “it is time to focus on nation building here at home.” The new focus was now allocated on building roads in Kentucky instead of Kabul, on constructing bridges in California rather than Kandahar. One would come to the conclusion that President Obama has been seen as a realist based on the change of priorities for his nation. The changes that are being suggested show that powerful figures now are coming to realize what truly needs to be taken care of instead of chasing “expensive dreams”.
